West Midlands Summary of 2002 projects
8-10 TENBY
STREET, BIRMINGHAM
NGR: SP 0595 8750
Building recording and analysis was carried out,
along with a programme of documentary research, prior to
partial demolition and redevelopment. The standing
building on the street frontage is all that remains of a
speculative development of the site of circa 1880, which
also included three suites of rear workshops and yards.
The frontage building is a brick structure of mixed
architectural styles. It is of three storeys and a
basement level. The upper storey was replaced, probably
in the early twentieth century, by a fully glazed top
shop. It was in multiple occupation, partly as a
restaurant/beerhouse with attached accommodation, but
largely for various trades associated with the jewellery
industry.
