| Once the most common form of
archaeological work and still the most high profile is
large scale excavation. This is, nevertheless, relatively
uncommon now. Instead, strategies are sought to avoid damage to archaeology which is sufficiently important to warrant full excavation. If damage cannot be avoided excavation of part or all of the threatened area may be carried out. |
