        requirement to carry out a programme of archaeological
        works for which a written schemes of investigation must

        service to assist developers in fulfilling their
        obligations. The term "programme of archaeological works" is a phrase intended to cover all possible forms of investigation and can incorporate the following services: 
 A written scheme of investigation, also known as a "specification", "project proposal" or "project design" is the formal document detailing the method statement for the programme of archaeological work and provides the contractural basis for the work. A written scheme of investigation can be prepared either in response to requirements of the relevant Local Planning Authority's Archaeological Advisor or in advance of the setting of a brief for work.
