| Fieldwalking is one of the
        simplest archaeological processes, involving systematic
retrieval of finds from the ground surface, usually of
ploughed fields. This can identify concentrations of
artefacts, suggesting areas of particular archaeological
potential. On large areas of ploughed land it is a
particularly useful technique for providing an overview
of the character of the archaeological resource. Fieldwalking is usually carried out as part of an evaluation. | |||
