| Once recovered during site work, artefacts and ecofacts are processed in order to ensure that their condition is stable and that they are sufficiently clean and well marked to be identifiable. Initially, remedial conservation of fragile or vulnerable objects may be needed. The next stage is investigation of the material to assess its potential for understanding the site. Dependent on various factors, the assessment may lead to a more detailed analysis of the material. The range of finds and
environmental remains is such that it is often necessary
to involve specialist sub-contractors to achieve the
required level of understanding of the material. This is
always centrally managed to ensure that specialists are
aware of the results of all other relevant analysis. | |||
