carried out as an initial survey of the archaeological
potential of an area or as part of a wider programme of
archaeological works. The locations searched and sources consulted will vary according to the particular project. Searches of local Sites and Monuments Records, Record Offices, libraries, museums and client records are the commonest repositories used. Typical sources which are sought are: - Sites and Monuments
